ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE SONNET

Aye, It is our conscience, the dread of the unknown
that makes us quiver in fear when we are shown
the frightful reality that at first is blinding
makes us don the shackles that are binding.
Ignorance, after all, is the biggest bliss.
Is what we see reality? Do our senses fool us?
What we see is not actuality, but only a shadow.
if we do not explore, our mind stays hollow.
Self-imposed fetters blind us from reality.
Not knowing what's out there causes agony
But is it truly reality which is better?
Or is human ignorance much better?

We must break free from our self-imposed confines
and remove our dank dark mental mines.

  1. Javaa! I really enjoyed reading your sonnet. It really gets the mind thinking. I like the questions for that shows how confusing and mind boggling the Allegory of the cave can be. You took a unique approach to it and for that alone I enjoyed it.

Your blog on the other hand is totally you. The profile picture next to Tommy the trojan is a nice touch. I also enjoy your non assignment blogs. Those are always very interesting to read. Nice job!

  3. Javi, I like your sonnet very much! I always enjoy seeing the way you leave your audience hanging at the end with inferences on humanity's faults. Very based of you. My eyes always have a hard time adjusting to your blog, but it screams "Javi" so it can't be all bad right? Anyway, please comment to my blog as well to help me out!

  4. I think you did a great job following the sonnet form, the words you chose to rhyme were very powerful and strong. Also, I think you approached the topic of the allegory in a way that wasn't so blatantly obvious, and worked it into a way that was relateable. Instead of just prisoners like in the allegory I could see it working for modern day people as well.

You also have a great blog that covers more than just our in class topics, so you've really made it yours and gone beyond what is expected! Nice work!

  6. Dude, your sonnet was extremely well written. It made me think about the questions that you asked, and what reality truly is! Great use of vocabulary!

Also, your blog is great! I like that your posts are easy to understand! Great job! What strategies are you using to study for the final? Let me know! http://lvalenzuelarhsenglitcomp.blogspot.com/

  7. JAVIII, I liked how your sonnet was one of the few that included questions within it. My favorite line from the whole thing has to be, "if we do not explore, our mind stays hollow." You were able to clearly get plato's purpose in it!

Just as before, everyone knows that this background is just you. And the politics involved with your blog shows us about what you're interested.
